Bernard Harris Sr.

Bernard Harris Sr., 97, of Dallas, Georgia passed away on July 10, 2022. He was born in Lowendesboro, Alabama on July 16, 1924 to the late Turner and Mary Harris. Bernard moved from Alabama at an early age to Toledo, Ohio where he met and united in holy matrimony with Effie L. Flemister on November 12, 1946. The couple moved to Detroit, Michigan where they became parents of five children. Bernard worked for and retired at Ford Motors and he loved his work. He was a faithful member of Rocky Ford Baptist Church where he proudly served as an Usher. Bernard enjoyed working in his yard or in his gardens, entertaining, and spending time with his family. He was always concerned about everyone, especially his family, and he always provided for them. When guests would come to his home, he became the best tour guide. Bernard was an incredible man who will be dearly missed.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Effie Louella Harris; his children, Bernard Harris Jr., Betty Jo Babiker; and Howard Harris; his siblings, Mitchell, Sam, Frank, Willie, Caroline, Mary, Daisy, and Katie. Bernard is survived by his son, Lonnie Harris; daughter, Rosemary Clemons; eight grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, and ten great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Friday, July 15, 2022 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Funeral Services for Mr. Harris will be at Rocky Ford Baptist Church on Saturday, July 16, 2022 at 11:00am with Reverend Ronny Perkins, Reverend Arthur McCarver, and Reverend Stanley Freeland officiating. Mr. Harris will lie in state at the Church from 10:00am until 11:00am. Interment will follow at Rocky Ford Baptist Church Cemetery.
