Adell “Dell” M. Jones, of Highlands, NC passed away Thursday, February 13th, 2020.
Born in Rome, GA on March 27th, 1947, to Marvin Jones and Lawanna Brown Jones, Adell graduated from Dallas High School in 1965 and later received her undergraduate degree from Tift College in Music and English. She was a teacher at Paulding High School and was a founding member of the Captain Edward Hagin Chapter, National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution before she relocated to Highlands, NC in the early 1980’s. There she became Music Director at the First Presbyterian Church of Highlands and, ever the entrepreneur, Adell co-owned Highlands Art and Auction Gallery and founded her own gym, Goodbodies, where her clients and friends began affectionately referring to her as “coach.” She was the happiest when she was in the gym either training her clients or training herself. She was a friend to many and always loyal. Already, she is greatly missed by those who knew her. Adell would remind us to “stay firm but flexible” in these trying times.
She is preceded in death by her parents and twin brothers, Marvin and Marlin Jones. She is survived by her long time partner, Brian Buckley of Highlands, NC, her sister Jean Jones and niece Dr. Wendy B. Cates, both of Dallas. Funeral services will be held at Clark Funeral Home on March 14th and visitation begins at noon with the funeral following at 2PM with Rev. Don Rackley officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to The American Cancer Society in loving memory of Ms. Jones.
