Alton Carter

We respectfully announce the passing of Alton Cecil Carter, age 50, of Rockmart, Georgia. Alton was born on Friday, May 10, 1974, and left this world peacefully on Sunday, April 13, 2025.

He is mourned by his loving family, including his mother, Sylvia Carter; wife, Angela Waters; and his siblings, Sammy Chastain, Dale Chastain, and Margie Carter. Alton is also survived by adopted mom Barbara Waters, niece, Nicole Whitlock, nephew, Dale Carter, and numerous cousins.

A New Hope Second Baptist Church member, Alton found fulfillment in his faith and community. He had a passion for gardening, where he cultivated plants and friendships. Many admired his talent for woodworking and his resourcefulness as a handyman, and he often lent his skills to family and friends alike. Alton was also adventurous, exploring caves and reveling in nature's mysteries.

Family and friends will gather to honor his life on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. A visitation will be held at Clark Funeral Home from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at the Sam Clark Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Chris Hewett officiating. As we reflect on Alton's life, we will remember his warmth, laughter, and commitment to the people around him. While he will be missed profoundly, his legacy will live on in the fond memories shared by all who knew him.

Alton was preceded in death by: father, Jimmy Carter, Sr., stepfather James (Jimmy) Stroup, brother Jimmy Carter, Jr., and sister - in - law Michelle Carter.
