Bernie Fischer, 75, of Dallas, GA passed away on January 11, 2020 at Wellstar Paulding Hospital from complications of kidney cancer. He was born on May 12, 1944 in Chicago, IL.
Mr. Fischer worked as a plumber for 40 years through Union #130. He was a lifelong Boy Scout and loved being outdoors. He enjoyed camping, hiking, and teaching others. His family is proud of the fact that he mentored countless individuals over the years. He frequently said, “It’s a great day for Scouting,” regardless of the weather or circumstances. He loved his family, and he loved traveling. He collected rocks and enjoyed trips with his family members to search for rocks. He was an amateur coin collector and enjoyed scrutinizing his coins.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Judy Fischer; his sons Peter Fischer of Dallas, Mark (Carolyn) Fischer of Sleepyhollow, IL; his daughter Debbie (Scott) Bailey of Dallas, GA; four brothers and five sisters; grandchildren Casey Bailey and Bradley Bailey; many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Fischer was preceded in death by his parents Herbert and Evelyn Schempp Fischer and two brothers.
Mr. Fischer chose to be cremated saying “the land is for the living and not for the dead.” He said that he did not want a funeral, but he wanted a party. Therefore, his family will receive friends at the Clark Funeral Home on Thursday, January 16, 2020 from 4:00-8:00 p.m. to celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to any local Boy Scout group.
Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, GA, is in charge of arrangements.
