Bertha Fitzgerald

Bertha L. Fitzgerald was born April 10, 1928, in Paulding County to the late Alfred & Emma Flemister. Bertha passed away Sunday, December 22, 2024.

She attended Matthews Consolidated School in Dallas, Georgia, and Washington High School in Atlanta, Georgia. She joined Rocky Ford Baptist Church at an early age under Pastor W.O. Kent where she was a faithful member.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to Reverend Isaac Fitzgerald on February 16, 1947. To this union, there were 7 children born - 5 girls and 2 boys. Rev. Fitzgerald preached as Co-Pastor for 16 years at Zion Hill Baptist Church, Dallas, Georgia, & 7 years as Pastor at Corinth Baptist Church, Euharlee, Georgia.

Bertha served as Church Treasurer for many years, served as the Church Historian, President of the Sick and Shut-in Committee, Vice President of the Seniors for 32 years, served as Delegate to the Friendship Association for 33 years and was a Member of the Holy Communion Alter Guild many years, Chairperson of the Church Annual Program Committee for 19 years, Member of the Most Worshipful Smooth Ashler Grand Court #627, served locally as Treasurer and the Assistant Secretary of the 10th District Grand Lodge Court. In her later years, she was named Mother of the Rocky Ford Baptist Church.

She was a great Homemaker and her specialty was cooking, canning, and making clothes for family & friends. She worked for the Production Engineering Company in Austell, Post Office in Hiram, & Nurse's Aide at Paulding Hospital. She loved people and always had time to visit the sick and shut-in. She was truly a loving, caring & sharing person.

Her husband preceded her in death April 9, 1996. Also, preceded her in death were her parents, Alfred F. Flemister & Emma G. Heard Flemister; 9 sisters: Annie Mae Morgan, Agnes McClarity, Ethel I. Sims, Gussie B. King, Odie D. Burr, Emma N. Reynolds, Eunice L. Turner, Irma Jo Sutherland, Christine Arnold; and 5 brothers: Alfred F. Flemister, Jr., Willard A. Flemister, George Snodie Flemister, Otis T. Flemister, Coy A. Flemister; and 2 grandchildren: Brannon Davis & Jordan Fitzgerald; and 2 sons-in-law Jimmy Davis & Col. John Hammond, Jr.

She leaves 7 children: Lillian Davis, Rose Rita Robinson (Alphonso, Jr.) Cheryl Wilcox (Jimmy), Ellen Fitzgerald, Elaine Fitzgerald Hammond, Isaiah Fitzgerald (Trudy), and Delonza Fitzgerald; and one brother Thomas E. Flemister.

There are 7 grandchildren: LaBreya Davis, Channing Hall (Clinethia), Little Al Robinson, Tonya Richardson, Danielle Wilcox, John Hammond III (Kim) & Miyah Fitzgerald.

There are 8 great-grandchildren: Jazlyn Davis, Kaeden Bryant, Eliana Hall, Donovan Hall, Jeremy Watson, T.J. Richardson, Tyler Richardson, and John Hammond IV; and 1 great great grandchild Amari Watson.

Recognize Helene FitzGerald, Robert Tittle, Carlton Britt & Janet Hicks, Danielle Watts- Jones; Best Friends Lois Jones, Larris Alexander & other cousins, relatives & friends.

Mrs. Bertha will be buried next to her beloved husband, Rev. Isaac Fitzgerald at Sweet Home Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
