Charles "Charlie" Kay Stevens, 86, who was a pillar of his community and an unforgettable force for his loved ones, passed away on August 16, 2024 in Dallas, Georgia. He was born on August 26, 1937 in Little River, North Miami, FL. to Blanche Henrietta Sparkman and Byron Post Stevens.
Charlie graduated from Ocala High School in Ocala, FL. in 1955. From 1956-1958, Charlie served in the United States Army, where he was stationed in Japan as an aerial photographer. Charlie came to Georgia in 1962 and opened his first restaurant, Lea's Drive Inn, in December of 1962 in Acworth, GA. He would then go on to own and operate several more restaurants in his life, including The Corner Cafe in Dallas, GA, in 2009. In 1992, at the age of 55, Charlie graduated college from Chattahoochee Technical Institute and earned a diploma in computer technology. Charlie Stevens was not only patriotic but a man of great faith. He served in local churches throughout his life, in whatever capacity was needed of him. At the age of 68, Charlie drove a semi-truck all across the United States and Canada, while working for Schneider Trucking. He always wanted to travel the United States and so he did!
Charlie (pawpaw Charlie as we so fondly know him) was a REEL legend. His favorite hobby and greatest love was fishing. He took many fishing trips throughout his life to Steinhatchee, FL. He took his first trip with his dad and many more with other loved ones. He loved being on the water and taking in the salt air. Charlie was a phenomenal man and leaves behind a phenomenal legacy. To know him was to love him. He impacted so many lives and has left an everlasting imprint on everyone's hearts. He was truly a super star and the most "COOL & GROOVY" person we will ever know. We will miss his smile, his jokes and his stories. A few of the many traits that made him the man we all loved.
Charlie Stevens was a giver his entire life. He lived to serve others. This is proven from his time in the service, his many years in the restaurant business, his faith and the way he served God, the way he loved and cared for his family and friends, and his time as a truck driver. It is even shown through the way he told jokes and stories that made everyone smile, and that we will never forget.
Charlie's Homecoming was preceded by his parents (Blanche Henrietta Sparkman and Byron Post Stevens) and his brother David Stevens.
Charlie is survived by his beloved wife, Glenda Nell Stevens, married for 43 years and together for 48 years; his twin brother Carl Stevens (Jocelyne) and his brother Herb Stevens (Becky); his children, Charles W. Stevens (Robyn), Diane Stevens (Scott), Tammy Taylor (Hardy), Wayne Weaver (Tiffany) and Brad Cosper (Christie); Grandchildren; McKenzie Milton (Bryce), Nick Young (Erika), Chris Shinall (Samantha), Matt Shinall (Katie), Brittany Callahan, Joshua Callahan (Jaimie), Angela Callahan (Bernard), Aunyette Taylor, Michael Taylor, Jessica Taylor, Amanda Chambers (Shannon), Jessica Allgood (Jay), Kaydee Weaver, Alex Weaver (Jordan), Mackenzie Martin, Maddie Weaver, Cody Cosper. As well as many loved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
