Charlie B. Christian, age 82, of Johns Creek, Georgia, died July 13, 2020. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Louise Christian, his twin brothers, Morris and Marvin Christian and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Charlie was born in Dallas, Georgia and graduated from Dallas High School in 1956. He played football on the Dallas High School Tigers team and formed lifelong friendships with his teammates. He attended West Georgia College and played football for the Chiefs. He transferred to The University of Georgia in Athens where he was active in Delta Sigma Pi, Sphinx, Blue Key, Demosthenian Literary Society, Gridiron, and was also president of his Senior Class of 1961. He worked for Amoco Oil Company in marketing and management his entire career of over 37 years. Charlie was an active member of AMOCARES, serving the Atlanta community by helping build houses for the needy, as well as working on a park project in Canada. He also volunteered at the Chattahoochee Nature Center for their runs and the CNC Camp for Kids. He loved helping others. Additionally, Charlie served as president of the Amoco/BP Alumni Club for a number of years, enjoying the opportunities to be with his Amoco family at social gatherings and renew lasting friendships along the way.
A devoted and loving husband and father, Charlie is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Janice Brown Christian; his son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Suzanne Christian of St. Louis, Missouri; daughter and son-in-law, Karen Christian Van Atta and Eric Van Atta of Atlanta, Georgia; 5 grandchildren, Alex Christian, Carlyn Christian, Garrett Christian, Lauren Van Atta, and Carys Van Atta. Also surviving are his sister-in-law, Margaret Christian, nieces, aunts, and cousins.
A private funeral service will be held at Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, Georgia and a concluding service at New Canaan Baptist Church in Dallas, Georgia. Serving as pallbearers are: Kent Christian, Alex Christian, Garrett Christian, Eric Van Atta, Danny Wallace, and Wayne Jackson.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Peachtree Corners Baptist Church (in memory of Charlie Christian), 4480 Peachtree Corners Circle, Peachtree Corners, Georgia 30092.
