David McCollum, age 71, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Sunday, April 7, 2013. He was born on July 14, 1941, in Buncombe County, NC, to the late John and Olivia McCollum, and was preceded in death by his step-father, Hugh Hall. Mr. McCollum was a United States Army Veteran of the 101st Airborne Division. He was a contractor/supervisor with Wright and Lopez, underground construction division.
Mr. McCollum enjoyed retirement. He was an avid deer hunter, outdoor enthusiast, full of life, and had a great sense of humor.
Survivors include wife of 48 years, Sandra McCollum of Dallas, GA; daughters and sons-in-law, Denise & Steve Froehle of Columbia, SC, Cynthia Appleby of Powder Springs, GA, and Kim & Stan Abernathy of Dallas; sisters and brothers-in-law, Dolores & David Reeves of Asheville, NC, Portia & L.B. Simpson of Asheville, NC, and Iris & Dick Davis of Gainesville, GA; grandchildren, Craig Froehle, Shayla Appleby, Chelsea Appleby, Christian Appleby, Lauren Abernathy and Colton Abernathy; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 10, 2013, at 11 a.m., at Clark Funeral Home Chapel, with Dick Davis officiating. Interment will follow in Kennesaw Memorial Park where Mr. McCollum will receive Military Honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 09, 2013, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m.
