Dr. Michael Gary Martin Sparti, D.O. passed away on September 26, 2021, at the age of 73 in Dallas, Georgia. He was born on July 24, 1948, to the late Dr. Frank Joseph Sparti and Mrs. Pauline Angeline Sparti (née Gendron). Dr. Sparti was a physician, brother, father, uncle and friend. He was raised in an Italian-American multi-generational household in Dallas, Georgia and Miami, Florida.
He was a caring person and a brilliant physician who excelled at diagnosing ailments and making patients laugh. If he had the patience, he could have written volumes of medical textbooks. His brain worked fast to solve problems, and he was continually sought out for his talented mind. He shared stories of senior physicians stopping him in the hospital stairwells when he was a medical student to ask for his medical opinion on difficult cases.
Dr. Sparti earned his medical degree from Kansas City University (College of Osteopathic Medicine) in Kansas City, Missouri in 1974. Dr. Sparti completed his internship at North Miami Beach Osteopathic Hospital in June 1975. His undergraduate studies were completed at the University of Florida. He attended Palmetto Senior High in Miami.
He practiced medicine in Georgia and California. In 1995 he started a medical practice in Rancho Cordova, CA. He served hundreds of patients in need of a compassionate physician. Dr. Sparti never thought twice about offering his help to anyone in need. He was frequently called on to do house calls by people in his community. He joyfully showed up, healed people, and put families at ease.
Dr. Sparti encouraged his children to explore the world through curiosity, science, and tinkering. Never tiring of answering the countless questions about the world that he encouraged them to ask. He was king of the kitchen when it came to breakfast. He was a voracious reader and drank copious amounts of coffee. Dr. Sparti was known for singing as he did chores or to wake up his children for school.
He lived his life as authentically as only he could. As a Christian, he confronted his challenges with grace and faith. Dr. Michael Sparti will be remembered for his brilliance, adventurous life, and commitment to healing others. Dr. Michael Sparti is survived by his children Chase Sparti of Sacramento, California, Chelsi Sparti and husband Jesús Enrique Buil-Macarty of Berkeley, California; brothers Dr. John Sparti (Rona Swanson) of Hiram, GA, Frank Joseph Sparti II, JD (Betty) of Cartersville, GA; and sisters, Dr. Frances Sparti of Cartersville, GA, Dr. Paula Sparti (Victoria Federici) of Miami Beach, Florida, and Dr. Patricia Sparti of Shelby, North Carolina.
Dr. Sparti's legacy will be kept alive by his children, siblings, friends, and through all the lives he touched as a physician and person. Per Dr. Sparti's wishes, he will be cremated, and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
