Major (Retired) Ermer Oree Canant, age 84, of Temple, passed away on Saturday, June 14, 2008. He was born on July 14, 1923 in Cullman, AL. He was retired from the U. S. Army, serving in World War II and Korea. After retiring from the Army, he worked for the Red Cross as a social worker and an assistant director for logistics.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Annette & Michele de Leo of Germany and Barbara & Ulrich Staudt of Germany; a sister, Berta Lewis of Hiram, GA; a step-brother, Johnny Jackson of Guntersville, AL; grandchildren, Beniamino de Leo, Lisa de Leo Jakovac and Marco de Leo, all of Germany; great-grandchild, Noelani Jakovac of Germany; nieces and nephews, Deborah Adams of Hiram, GA, James Lewis of Orange Park, FL, Betty DeVall of Hiram, GA, Roy Lewis of Conyers, GA, Brenda Smith of Guntersville, AL and Michael Smith of Guntersville, AL.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 19, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. from Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, GA. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, GA, is in charge of arrangements. www.samclarkfuneralhome.com.
