Evelyn Ragsdale Shipp

January 3, 1917 — February 28, 2020

Evelyn Ragsdale Shipp passed away on Friday, February 28th, 2020, at Manor Care nursing center in East Cobb, after a short illness. Evelyn was born on January 3rd, 1917, a tiny 1 ½ pound baby. She was the last surviving child of DeWitt and Emma Viola Ragsdale. She enjoyed growing up with 10 siblings and half siblings; her many nieces and nephews were always dear to her. She is preceded in death by her husband, J.K. (Bob) Shipp and her granddaughter, Courtney Maria Shipp. She is survived by her children, Gena Maria Beach (Jim) of Roswell and Joel Kreston Shipp (Lorelei) of Peachtree City, granddaughter Alaina Chaffin (Patrick) of Nashville, TN, and two great grandsons.

After Bob’s death in 1977, Evelyn lived for many more years on her farm in Paulding County before moving to Roswell in 2003. She loved growing and hybridizing iris and showing them to many visitors who shared her gardening enthusiasm. She enjoyed painting, pottery and jewelry making, and finding beautiful natural stones. She was always ready for an excursion, whether going to North Carolina to find interesting rocks to use in her jewelry or travels to different countries. She visited Mexico, Canada, Europe, Scandinavia, and Russia. She also traveled in this country to a variety of destinations, including Mount St. Helens.
