Gail Johnson Fowler, 83, of Rockmart, GA passed away on September 5, 2020. She was born on July 18, 1937, in Atlanta, GA and was married to the late Alton O. Fowler Sr. in a double ceremony with Mary (her sister) and Donald Landers. Gail and Alton had been happily married for 44 years when he passed away. She was the founder and owner of the Stop-N Go Daycare Center in Dallas for 30 years before retiring. Family was most important to her. In retirement she enjoyed traveling, spending time with her family and spoiling her great-grandchildren. She will be remembered for helping to raise many, many children from and around Paulding County.
Although her membership is with New Canaan Baptist Church where she was a faithful member for many years, she had more recently been attending New Freedom Missionary Baptist Church in Rockmart.
Mrs. Fowler is survived by her son Alton Fowler Jr. and his wife Penny of Rockmart, GA; her son Russell Fowler of Hiram, GA; her brother, Daniel Johnson of GA; two sisters, Mary Landers of Perry, GA and Lyndia Smith and her husband Marcus of Ellijay, GA. She is also survived by five grandchildren Elizabeth (Fowler) Williams, Alexandria Fowler, Lauren Ellis and her husband Kenny, Zach Thomason and his wife Brooke, and Chelci Varnum and her husband Brian, and eight great-grandchildren Madison Williams, Easton Ellis, Maci Williams, Brason Varnum, Nora Thomason, Camden Fowler, Nolan Thomason, and Ridge Varnum. She will also be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews, and several cousins.
Mrs. Fowler was preceded in death by her husband, Alton O. Fowler, Sr. (August 8, 2006); her parents, Daniel Sloan Johnson and Esther Inez Orr Johnson; and her sister, Virginia Rabern.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, September 7, 2020 at 3:00 p.m. at Paulding Memorial Gardens with Rev. Don Rackley officiating. The family will receive visitors at the funeral home on Monday, September 7, 2020 from 12:00 noon until 2:45 p.m. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jimmy Fowler, Chris Williams, Derek Frank, Kenny Ellis, Zach Thomason, Brian Varnum, and Brent Fowler.
The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to the states Covid-19 restrictions (no more than 50 people inside the funeral home at one time). If attending the visitation or service, the staff of Clark Funeral Home highly recommends that a face mask be worn and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends, and family members of Mrs. Fowler safe.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
