Genell Smith, age 89, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Saturday, August 22, 2020 at her home, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 8, 1931 in Dallas, GA, to her late parents; Seab and Rosia Smith. Genell was a homemaker and was a faithful member of New Canaan Baptist Church. She was a devoted wife, Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother. She spent most of her life caring for and loving her family. She always put others in front of herself. Not many things made her happier than seeing someone she loved walking through her front door. She lived a simple life under very complicated circumstances. She was a faithful servant to Jesus, and she loved and trusted the Lord. She will be remembered forever and missed by so many. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Thomas Jerry Smith, daughter, Gail Smith, sisters; Faye Colbert, Cleo Cole, granddaughter, Mindy Rutledge, and son in law, James Rutledge.
Mrs. Smith is survived by her loving children; Danny (Treva) Shelton of Dallas, GA, Connie Smith of Dallas, GA, Tunya Rutledge of Dallas, GA, brother, Frankie Smith of Dallas, GA, sisters; Willie Cole of Dallas, GA, Mary Hulsey of Dallas, GA, Inez (Aubrey) Fuller of Dallas, GA, grandchildren; Stephanie Shelton (Jamie Winkles), Amy Garrett (Tommy) great grandchildren, Blakley Winkles, Cambrie Winkles, Gavin Garrett, and Liam Garrett.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Smith will be held on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at 3:00 PM from the Clark Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. George Barnett and Rev James Cook officiating. Interment will follow at New Canaan Baptist Church Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers; Danny Shelton, Tommy Garrett, Gavin Garrett, Jamie Winkles, Jeff Cole and Chad Smith. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a visitation on Wednesday, August 26, 2020 from 1:00 PM until the service begins at 3:00 PM. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to the states Covid-19 restrictions (no more than 50 people inside the funeral home at one time). If attending the visitation or service, the staff of Clark Funeral Home highly recommends that a face mask be worn and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends and family members of Mrs. Smith safe.
