Georgia Chappell

December 18, 1931 — June 19, 2015

Georgia Hicks Chappell passed on June 19, 2015, at her home surrounded by loved ones. She attained 83 years.

Born into world-wide depression on December 18, 1931, the only child of Albert and Elsie West Ellison. Delivered at 7 months with a birth weight of only 1 ½ pounds, a miracle today, a greater miracle for 1931, she had a small chance of survival. Her mother remained in Villa Rica Hospital while she was sent home with her father. She proved to be a survivor destined to a life of service for others.

A woman of beauty, she entered each season of life with grace. Her heart like a child’s was pure and incorruptible, yet she had perseverance to endure all life handed her. She was grateful but expected little, humble but not ashamed. She afforded all an equal measure of human dignity. Her love was non-judgmental, unconditional, constant and filled with hope and faith. Her home was a place of hospitality and a sanctuary for those in need.

She taught by example to love others, be patient and kind, to give freely and be strong for those who are weak. She was esteemed not for her wealth, position nor status, none of which she possessed nor desired but for her deeds.

She was a member of Concord Baptist Church, and active in the Union Community.

She lived simply, gave freely, loved unconditionally as instructed by our Lord.

She leaves a lifetime of memories of a gentle heart, an unwavering hope, and an empty chair at her table from which she fed so many.

She is preceded in death by husband, James Ray Chappell and granddaughter, Beverly Jo Hicks.

Survived by children, Linda Hayes, Mr. & Mrs. Kenneth Hicks, Janice Massey and Poly Wisener, seven grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, an aunt, Mrs. Ludie Gordon and especial supportive ones, Robert Ellison, Marilyn Scoggins, Grover and Gail Thrasher.

Services were held on June 24, 2015, at Clark’s with Pastor Joey Meeks officiating. Honorary pallbearers included Paul Warren, Jerry Keown, Larry Hardin, Kenneth Thompson and Doug Turner.

Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, GA, is in charge of arrangements. www.samclarkfuneralhome.com)
