Gordon Buttram

August 9, 1929 — October 11, 2012

Biography

Gordon Carlton Buttram, age 83, of Dallas, GA passed away on Thursday, October 11, 2012. He was born on August 9, 1929. Gordon was a wonderful husband, father and provider for his wife and 5 children. He was proud to be a Marine and served his term in the Philippines. He worked for more than 40 years in the construction industry installing acoustical ceilings and sheetrock. He loved his work and took pride in the finished product. After retirement, at age 62, he became an avid golfer and was a member of the Greystone Golf Club, where you could count on seeing him bright and early at least 5 days a week. He also loved to spend time with his dog, Beamer, and loved to sit on the porch and watch it rain. Gordon loved old-time country music and big band. He also loved to watch sports, especially the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons. He was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan (even though he has a son and a son-in-law that work at Georgia Tech!). After battling for years with heart and lung disease and diabetes, Gordon had a stroke in early 2009 from which he never fully recovered. A combination of long-term health issues led to his demise. Gordon is very loved by his family and will very much be missed, but they all hold close to their hearts the knowledge that he is with Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, and they will be reunited with him again one day.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joe Capers Buttram, and his mother, Ida Emaline Hale Buttram. Survivors include his wife, Margaret Sue Daniel Buttram of Dallas, GA; his sons, Rick and Melanie Buttram of Hiram, GA, Phillip and Carol Buttram of Oxford, GA, and Tommy Buttram and his special companion Julia Goodberry of Dallas, GA; His daughters, Kathy and John Carey of Blue Ridge, GA and Linda and Andy Sheffield of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Mandy Ploof of Roanoke, AL, Tracy Clay of Rockmart, GA, Blake Doby of Dallas, GA, Blair Buttram of Kennesaw, GA, and Emily Carey of Blue Ridge, GA; 7 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
