Gordon E. Hamby, age 90, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2013 at the Paulding Wellstar Nursing Home. He was born July 9, 1922 in Murphy, NC and lived in Rome, Austell and Hiram, GA. Mr. Hamby was a Veteran of WW II and was honored in a military funeral on May 24, 2013.
He was married to Louise L. Hamby for 70 years; they had 3 children, 5 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. During his life he owned several small businesses, finally retiring in 1987. He loved to garden, work on any kind of machinery, laugh and be with his family. He was loved and will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Louise L. Hamby, his parents, Kirk & Vesta Hamby of Rome, GA, his grandson, Gayle Thomas Cagle of Rome, GA and daughter-in-law, Elaine Hamby.
Survivors include two daughters & their husbands, Shirley & Gene Cagle of Rome, GA; Sue & John Wadsworth of Hiram, GA, a son, Larry Hamby; three sisters, Dorothy Nicholson, Louise Everett and Evelyn Sims, all of Rome, GA; grandchildren & their spouses, John & Vicki Wadsworth of Dallas, GA, Cindy & Brian Hardison of Dallas, GA, Donnie & Wanda Fleming of Geraldine, AL and Robbie & Anna Hamby; 9 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 23, 2013 in the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home with Reverend Don Rackley officiating. Interment will follow in Paulding Memorial Gardens in Hiram, GA. The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 23, 2013 from 12:30 p.m. until the time of the service.
