Harold T. Echols, age 57, of Hiram, GA, passed away on Friday, February 1, 2008. He was born on March 6, 1950, in Atlanta, GA , and was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Lillian Clay Echols; and his wife of 30 years, Becky Strickland Echols.
Mr. Echols was a lifelong resident of Paulding County where he was a local elected official and businessman. After retiring from a thirty year career with AT&T Corporation and twenty five years with the United States Air Force Reserves, Hal was elected in 1998 as a County Commissioner in Paulding County and currently served as Chairman pro tempore of the Board of Commissioners. Mr. Echols was a founding board member of the First National Bank West Metro and currently served on the Board of Directors of First Choice Community Bank in Dallas. He also served on the Association of County Commissioner's Board of Workers Compensation.
Mr. Echols was a devoted father, friend to his community and a lifelong member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church.
Survivors include his son & daughter-in-law, Matt Echols & his wife,
Abby of Atlanta, GA; daughter & son-in-law, Katie Harrison & her husband, Trae of Smyrna, GA; sister, Pam Echols of Hiram, GA; grandson, Henry Lumpkin Echols of Atlanta, GA; and cousins, aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, February 4, 2008, at 4:00pm, from Poplar Springs Baptist Church , with Dr. Tim Walker and Dr. Gil Watson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2:00pm until 6:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Becky Strickland Echols Memorial Scholarship Fund, P. O. Box 2004, Hiram, GA 30141.
