Mrs. Helen (Len) Harmon Allen, age 71, of Dallas, GA, and formally a resident of Charleston and Summerville, SC, passed away Wednesday, March 20, 2013. She was born January 28, 1942 in Columbia, SC, daughter of the late, John Daniel Harmon and Brodys Meetze Harmon of Charleston, SC. She is survived by her husband, William J. Allen, Sr. of Dallas, GA; a son, Ben Tillman Austin, IV & wife, Linda, of Del Ray Beach, FL; a daughter, Caroline Helen Knapp & husband, Clint of Dallas, GA; and a son, William Jenkins Allen, Jr. & wife, Sabrina of Hiram, GA; step-daughters, Whitney Kriewaldt of Summerville, SC, Tyler Taylor & husband, Paul of Charleston, SC and Stephanie O’Connor & husband, Michael of New Port, RI. She is also survived by six grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren, a brother, John Harmon & wife, Carole of Alabaster, AL and six nieces and nephews.
Helen studied nursing at the Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC. She enjoyed many things in life, but truly enjoyed her time with her family and especially her grandchildren. Since her children were involved in youth soccer she helped her husband coach his under 12 team and even obtain an “F” license. She even played co-ed soccer one year with her husband. Her greatest achievement in life was being a homemaker for her family and a loving and devoted wife to her husband and mother to her children. She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Hiram, GA and was an Easter Star. Friends will be received from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Clark Funeral Home, 4373 Atlanta Highway in Hiram, GA, on Friday, March 22, 2013. Funeral services will be held at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 76 Seaboard Street in Hiram, GA, on Saturday, March 23, 2013, at 2:00 PM, with Pastor Tim Poston. Graveside services will be held following the church service at Paulding Memorial Gardens in Hiram, GA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Cancer Foundation, Paulding County SPCA or to Holy Cross Lutheran Church grounds committee.
