Howard Moffitt, of Dallas, GA, passed away on October 17, 2020. Howard was born on October 30, 1944, in Shaftsbury, VT to George and Hattie Moffitt. He had nine brothers and three sisters. In 1975, Howard came to Atlanta and married Shelley Weist. Together they raised their three boys: Ethan, Jesse, and Steven in the town of New Hope, Georgia. It was in a cabin in the woods built by the two of them, that Howard and Shelley started their family. For more than 20 years that would be their residence.
Howard was an experienced carpenter by trade, a devout Jehovah’s Witness, and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He leaves behind his wife Shelley, son Ethan and his wife Talia of Marietta, son Jesse and his wife Carrie of Staunton, Virginia, beloved son Steven, and grandchildren Jesse Jr., Eli, Zoey, Josie, and Asher. He also leaves behind three children from a previous marriage in Vermont.
A private family service will be held on Wednesday, October 21 on the family property. Pastor John Morgan will be officiating. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorial gifts to be sent to the Special Olympics of Georgia.
