Ivey Herschel Elsberry, age 85, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Tuesday, March 24, 2009. He was born January 3, 1924, in Polk County, to the late, Ben Zeb Elsberry and the late, Lillie Carruth Elsberry. Mr. Elsberry was a U. S. Army Veteran of World War II.
He was a former Mayor of Hiram and retired as a road superintendent with Paulding County Government. Mr. Elsberry was a member of Yorkville Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Myrtle Elsberry; sons & daughter-in-law, David & Terri Elsberry of Temple, Steve Elsberry of Dallas, and Kevin Elsberry of Dallas; daughter & son-in-law, Shirley & Ronald Rakestraw of Dallas; brothers & sisters-in-law, James & Beverly Elsberry of Dallas, Marvin & Barbara Elsberry of Hiram, and Howell & Burma Elsberry of Temple; sisters, Mary Bagley of Dallas and Mattie Lee Gulledge of Dallas; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2009, at 2:00 pm, from Clark Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Andy Fennell officiating. Interment will follow in Peaceful Meadows Memorial Cemetery. David Elsberry, Jr., Daniel Elsberry, Steve Elsberry, Jr.,
Chris Elsberry, Will Elsberry, Kevin Elsberry, Jr., and Josh Elsberry will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
