Jackie Brooks

Jackie E. Brooks, age 71 of Hayesville, North Carolina, formerly of Kennesaw, Georgia passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at his residence. He was a native of Cobb County, Georgia. He began driving a front load truck as a young man with BFI. He ended his career driving for North Metro Waste where he retired after 37 years of dedicated service. Jackie’s true passion was ministering and leading the lost to Christ. He served as an associate pastor at several churches in the greater Atlanta area. Jackie’s daily life was devoted to sharing the gospel whether it be a stranger at the grocery store or his doctor or nurse. He sent daily scriptures and devotions to his friends, family and anyone he felt led by the spirit to be a witness. Jackie was a wonderful, caring and loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be greatly missed.

He was the son of the late Eulays Simpson and Myrtle Lois Buchanan Brooks. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by one grandson, Micah McCarty; his step mother, Ann Brooks Hollingsworth; and one sister, Janice Stewart.

Surviving are his wife of 50 years, Hester Penland Brooks of Hayesville, North Carolina; two daughters and sons-in-law, Miranda and Joe of Jasper, Georgia and Mindy and Daniel McCarty of Ball Ground, Georgia; nine grandchildren: Jojo (Misty) Brown, Kelsey (Trey) Hyde, Joshua Brown, Brooke Brown, Rosie Brown, Daniel McCarty Jr., Mason McCarty, Matthew McCarty and Dawson McCarty; five great-grandchildren: Kylie, Oliver, Scarlett, Cami and Grayson; brother, Barry (Deborah) Brooks of Cartersville, Georgia; brothers-in-law: Pete Penland, Pat Penland, Tommy Penland and Bill Stewart; sisters-in-law: Diane Long, Deborah Abbott and Phyllis Howell; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home, 4373 Atlanta Highway, Hiram, Georgia, on Monday, August 12, 2024 from 12:00 pm until 2:00 pm. 

The Funeral Service will be conducted Monday, August 12, 2024 at 2:00 pm in Sam Clark Chapel with Reverend Joey Buchanan officiating. You may view the service live by visiting https://webcast.funeralvue.com/events/viewer/103512. 

Interment will follow in Shiloh Community Church Cemetery in Kennesaw, Georgia with Daniel McCarty Sr., Daniel McCarty Jr., Mason McCarty, Joe Brown, Jojo Brown and Joshua Brown serving as Pallbearers. Honorary Pallbearers will be Pete Penland, Pat Penland, Trey Hyde and Dawson McCarty.
