J.C. (John Calup) Smith

J.C. (John Calup) Smith, age 68, of Hiram GA passed away at WellStar Paulding Hospital on Saturday, January 13, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jeff Roland and Era Tumlin Smith and brother, Ralph Smith.

J.C. was a loving, loyal and devoted husband, father, granddaddy, and father-in-law. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife; Rebecca “Becky” Smith of Hiram, GA; daughter and son-in-law Ashley and Jared Gulick; granddaughter, Miss Peyton Gulick all of Dallas, GA; J.C. was a faithful and Christian man of the Baptist faith and a member of Lost Mountain Baptist Church. Other surviving relatives include sisters and brothers-in-law, Nell and Martin Cantrell of Acworth, GA; Carolyn Sanders of Carnesville, GA; Eleanor and Hunter Stokes of Raleigh, NC; Joyce Owens of Lincoln, Al and Evelyn Johnson of Arab, AL; numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smith began his career with Southern Bell in December 1969 as a telephone lineman. He held several positions over his 42 years of employment with Southern Bell, Bell South and AT & T. His last position was Service Consultant, the highest rated position with AT&T.  He also served the Communications Workers of America, the union that represents the employees of AT&T. Over the years, he served as Vice President of the Marietta Local and Executive Vice President of Local 3204 (Atlanta). He provided Job Steward training for many employees, and conducted leadership training at the University of Georgia. He served C.W.A. at the District and National level.  J.C. was a faithful and loyal friend, and brother to the members of C.W.A.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Clark Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Dawson, Walter D. Andrews, Reginald C. Dancil and Dr. Allen Raphael officiating. Interment will follow at Peaceful Meadows Memorial Cemetery 86 Hart Road, Dallas, GA 30157.  The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening, January 16, 2018 between the hours of 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. The following gentlemen will serve as pallbearers: Jared Gulick, Scott Sanders, Wayne Atkisson, Doug Ferrell, Walter D. Andrews, Reginald C. Dancil and Dr. Allen Raphael.  Honorary pallbearers will be all Officers and Job Stewards of C.W.A.
