Jeremiah "Jay" Shumpert passed away on April 10, 2023. He was born on November 8, 1936, to the late Knolton and Mozelle Shumpert. Jay was a United States Army Veteran and a Clemson graduate (Class of '58). He retired from Lockheed Martin as an engineer after over 40 years of service. Jay was a member of Elevate Christian Church alongside his wife, Claudia, and was very active in his church. He was also a woodworker and helped build one of the buildings at the church. He made furniture, swings, and loved spending time on his craft. Jay and Claudia loved going to their lakehouse and spending time together. He was a wonderful grandfather and great-grandfather who adored his family. He was a truly remarkable man who will be missed.
Jay is preceded in death by his parents, Paul Knolton Shumpert and Leila Mozelle Shumpert. He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Claudia B. Shumpert; his son, Jera (Gina) Shumpert; his daughter, Angela (George) Lumsden; his brother, Paul (Jean) Shumpert; five grandchildren, Jana Yates, Jake Shumpert, Ben Lumsden, Jessica Hancock, Bradley Lumsden; seven great-grandchildren, Elijah Yates, Elizabeth Grace Yates, Abagail Leigh Yates, Robert Paul "Bo" Shumpert, Patricia Kate Shumpert, Jeremiah Riner "Ri" Shumpert, Wyatt McCoy Lumsden; and several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and loved ones at Clark Funeral Home on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 5:00pm until 8:00pm. Funeral services for Mr. Shumpert will be held at Clark Funeral Home on Thursday, April 13, 2023 beginning at 11:00am with Pastor Kevin Barton officiating. Interment will follow at Crest Lawn Memorial Park at 2:00pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Jay's honor towards Elevate Christian Church.
