Jimmy Lee “Big Jim” Ellington, age 68, of Hiram, GA, passed away on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. He was born on June 10,1946, in Atlanta, GA. Mr. Ellington was an United States Army Veteran serving in the Vietnam War. Jimmy was employed with the Dallas Police Department for 5 years before he transferred to Paulding County Sherriff’s Department, where he retired as Major with 30 years of service. He was a member of Sweet Home Baptist Church.
Survivors include wife of 44 years, Evelyn Ellington of Hiram, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Chansalar “Champ” & Amanda Ellington of Marietta, GA; daughters and son-in-law, Carla & Robert Jackson of Powder Springs, GA, and Collene Ellington of Dallas, GA; brothers, Milton Sexton of Dallas, GA, Thomas Bowen of Marietta, GA, and Ricky Sexton of Atlanta, GA; sister, Frances Sexton of Dallas, GA; grandchildren, Kevin & Ivy Ellington, and Joseph Sawyer; great-grandchild, Kash Ellington; numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 23, 2015, at 1 PM, from Sweet Home Baptist Church, with Revered Jeffery Wimbush officiating. The body will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow in Sweet Home Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, May 22, 2015, from 5 PM until 8 PM.
