JoAnn Florence Smith went to be with the Lord on July 12, 2018. JoAnn was born on April 18, 1935 in Powder Springs, GA. She was the daughter of Frank and Flora Florence, one of eight children. She was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years Jesse David Smith. JoAnn and David had six children, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren. JoAnn loved the Lord and she loved her family. She was a “Trailblazer” joining the work force at 16 years old as a cashier at A & P and then quickly advanced to the position of bookkeeper. She and her husband David ran a very successful business on the Atlanta Farmers Market. JoAnn later opened her own store, JoAnn’s Farm Market in Powder Springs. Enjoying many years of success with the store she then had a different calling. She opened the first daycare center in Powder Springs, called Little Angels Day Care. JoAnn touched the lives of so many children over the 12 years she owned the center. While running the daycare, JoAnn also served as Chairman of the Powder Springs Downtown Development Authority. With her leadership she helped bring business to the downtown area and they built the very first public parking lot. She also played a role in building a Community Center at Wild Horse Creek Park in Powder Springs. JoAnn was given an award from Joe Frank Harris for the role she played in helping Powder Springs develop and grow. JoAnn sold the daycare center to move to a farm in Cartersville, GA, to give her husband the opportunity to live a dream he had of owning a mini-farm. Of course being the business woman she was, she decided to follow a dream she always had. At 56 years old she became a realtor. Once again, she was AMAZING, becoming and holding the spot of “Top Agent” in her office winning multiple awards year after year. JoAnn retired at 73 but continued to share her incredible business knowledge and drive with her 6 children and grandchildren.
JoAnn is survived by her children and their spouses Phillip Smith, David and Dawn Smith, Bridget and Terry Parrott, Melania and Jim Saltarella, Genie and Terry Torbert, and Albert Smith, thirteen grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 14, 2018, at 3 PM, from Clark Funeral Home, with Pastor Moses Florence officiating. Interment will follow in Powder Springs Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 14, 2018, from 12 PM until the time of service.
