Joe “Papa Joe” Tibbitts, age 89, of Rockmart, GA, passed away on Friday, December 27, 2019 at Tranquility at Cobb. He was born on February 21, 1930 in Dallas, GA, to his late parents; Joseph and Marie Tibbitts. Joe worked as an inspector for Ford Motor Company for 30 years and was a faithful member of Narroway Baptist Church. Joe was loved immensely by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. In addition to his parents; he was preceded in death by his loving wife of 71 years, Ann Tibbitts, son, Wayne Tibbitts, son in law, Wesley Rakestraw, two sisters; Annette Rakestraw, Clo Esther Leeds, two brothers; Fed Tibbitts, Lee Tibbitts, and two brother in laws; Larry Michaels and Cecil Lyle.
Survivors include his loving daughters; Sherry and Wayne Barber of Dallas, GA, Sharon and Dean Morgan of Rockmart, GA, Karen and Lee Proctor of Dallas, GA, Sevelda and Buster Crumpton of Athens, GA, brothers; Ned and Nell Tibbitts of Dallas, GA, Hershel and Letty Tibbitts of Dallas, GA, sisters; Francis Michael of Dallas, GA, Emily and Terrell Smith of Dallas, GA, Kay Lyle of Dallas, GA, grandchildren; Russ and Angie Tibbitts of Dallas, GA, Jason and Melissa Barber of Dallas, GA, Jody and Rachel Barber of Dallas, GA, John and Lindsey Rakestraw of Dallas, GA, Josh and Morgan Rakestraw of Dallas, GA, Jake and Taylor Rakestraw of Dallas, GA, Amanda and William Gossett of Bainbridge, GA, Natalie and Charlie Walthour of Guyton, GA, great-grandchildren; Reagan Tibbitts, Devyn and Jordan Brackett, Jarrett Barber, Katie Barber, Rylee Barber, Walker Rakestraw, Adalyn Rakestraw, Wesley Rakestraw, Wyatt Rakestraw, Waverley Rakestraw, Anna Gossett, Hunter Walthour, Landon Walthour, and great-great grandchild, Jaxon Brackett.
Funeral Services for Mr. Joe Tibbitts will be held on Monday, December 30, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Narroway Baptist Church with Rev. Hershel Tibbitts and Rev. Todd Tibbitts officiating. Interment will follow the service at Narroway Baptist Church Cemetery with Rev. Merle Barron officiating the graveside service. Serving as pallbearers will be the following gentlemen; Russ Tibbitts, Jason Barber, John Rakestraw, Josh Rakestraw, Jake Rakestraw, Jody Barber, Charlie Walthour, and William Gossett. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be; Gerald Hosea and Bud Selsor. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, December 29, 2019 at the funeral home from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to Narroway Cemetery Fund in loving memory of Mr. Joe Tibbitts.
