John Aker Hunnings, age 80, of Villa Rica, GA, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at his home. He was born on December 29, 1939 in Atlanta, GA, to his late parents; Elmo and Marguerite Hunnings. John served in the United States Navy and later worked as an electrician for Local Union IBEW 613. Mr. Hunnings was a faithful member of Wesley Chapel United Methodist Church and use to be active in Methodist Missons. In his spare time, John greatly enjoyed restoring old cars. Mr. Hunnings was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great grandfather and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, of 47 years, Faye Woody Hunnings and his brother, James Frederick Hunnings.
Mr. Hunnings is survived by his wife, Sara Painter of Villa Rica, GA, children; Tim Hunnings of Woodstock, GA, David Hunnings of Hiram, GA, Sandra Barrett (John) of Powder Springs, GA, Susan Mixon of Cartersville, GA, Sindee Weyenberg (Dennis) of Powder Springs, GA, grandchildren; Chase Hunnings, Brooke Oxendine (Josh), Sam Hunnings, Amanda Goldin, Amber Aker, David Hunnings Jr., Anthony Barrett (Mollie), Zachary Barrett, Matthew Mixon, Morgan Mixon, Tyler Weyenberg, Chandler Weyenberg, Madison Weyenberg and 11 great grandchildren.
A Funeral Service for Mr. Hunnings will be held on Saturday, August, 2020 at the Clark Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Condra officiating. Interment will follow the service at Mt. Nebo Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, August 1, 2020 from 1:00 PM until the service begins at 3:00 PM. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to the states Covid-19 restrictions. (No more than 50 people inside the funeral home at one time) If attending the visitation or service, the staff of Clark Funeral Home highly recommends that a face mask be worn and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends and family members of Mr. Hunnings safe.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to The American Cancer Society in loving memory of Mr. Hunnings.
