John Robert Hutcheson, age 97, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 18, 1923 in Paulding County, near Draketown to his late parents; Henry Grady Hutcheson and Lillian Williams Hutcheson. John was retired from Dobbins Air Force Base where he served as a firefighter for 22 years. In addition to being a firefighter, Mr. Hutcheson bravely served in the United States Marine Corp during World War II. He participated in action during the battle of Iwo Jima Island in February of 1945, where he was wounded by a saber. PFC John Hutcheson received a Purple Heart for being wounded in action. He was later discharged on October 31, 1945. John was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Dallas. Mr. Hutcheson was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and great grandfather who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Lila Hall Hutcheson (daughter of Ben and Bernice Hall of Dallas, GA) and his son, Christopher Alan Hutcheson and his siblings; Henry Hutcheson, David Hutcheson, Helen Hutcheson Sloan, infant sister, Edna Doris Hutcheson and great grandson, Keith Warren Sandberg.
Mr. Hutcheson is survived by his son, Larry Hutcheson and his wife, Diane of Tignall, GA, sisters; Margaret Hutcheson Bagby of Dallas, GA, Jeanette Hutcheson Graham of Dallas, GA, grandchildren; Carrie Sandberg, Lara Lacey, Genie Hutcheson and her husband, John, Christopher Alan Hutcheson and his wife, Sharon, Katie Gilreath and her husband, Donald, 13 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Hutcheson will be held on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from the Clark Funeral Home Chapel at 4:00 PM with Rev. George Barnett and Rev. Blake Trent officiating. Interment will follow the service at Paulding Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be the following gentlemen; Sammy Graham, Bobby Graham, Cainon Graham, Chad Graham, Nicholas Hensley and Dennis Hutcheson. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for a visitation on Saturday, July 25, 2020 from 2:00 PM until the service starts at 4:00 PM. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service or visitation in person due to the states Covid-19 restrictions. (No more than 50 people inside the funeral home at one time) If attending the visitation or service, the staff of Clark Funeral Home recommends that a face mask be worn and that social distancing is practiced to help prevent the spreading of any possible illnesses and to help keep visitors, friends and family members of Mr. Hutcheson safe.
