With deep sorrow, we announce the passing of John Harvey Merritt, a beloved son, husband, father, and grandfather, who left this world peacefully on March 10, 2025, at his home in Temple, Georgia. John was 68 years old.
Born November 9, 1956, John dedicated his life to his family and work. He spent many years as a respected crane operator for the Local Union 926, where he was known for his commitment to excellence and his unwavering work ethic. John retired with pride, having built a reputable career.
He was a man of simple pleasures, enjoying the great outdoors. John cherished his time spent hunting and fishing, often sharing cherished moments with his loved ones. All who knew him will profoundly miss his laughter and genuine spirit.
John is survived by his devoted wife, Emmalee Merritt; his son, Wes Merritt; his daughter, Lana Hilderbrand (Jake); and his beloved grandson, Waylon Merritt. He leaves behind a legacy of love and memories that will forever be etched in the hearts of his family.
A Graveside Service will be held in John's honor at the Bethany Holiness Baptist Church Cemetery on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will take place at Clark Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, where friends and family are welcome to gather and share their memories.
In this time of grief, let us remember John Harvey Merritt, a true friend, devoted family man, and a gentle soul whose spirit will live on in the hearts of those he loved.
John was preceded in death by: father Rexford Merritt, mother Louise Vickers, and brother Wesley Merritt.
