We regret to announce the sudden passing of Dr. John G. Sparti of Dallas GA. Dr. Sparti passed away Friday night Feb 16, 2024, at Kennestone Hospital. He died peacefully with his family beside him.
Dr. Sparti was born to Pauline G. Sparti and Dr. Frank J. Sparti on June 24, 1944 in Laconia, New Hampshire. Dr. Sparti spent most of his youth in Miami, Florida. He attended Miami Dade Community College and Florida Atlantic University, graduating in 1967. He earned his doctorate degree through the College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kansas City, MO in 1972. He moved to Georgia in 1974 and began a 50 year distinguished career as a physician. He worked at the former Medical Arts Hospital, the former Paulding Memorial Hospital and was eventually on staff at Wellstar Paulding Hospital. In the beginning of his career he delivered over 300 babies, worked multiple emergency rooms, while building his own practice, Dallas Family Practice Center, which he opened in 1975. He served in all positions of the GA Osteopathic Medical Association, and was a member of several other boards and committees. He serviced as medical examiner for Paulding co. for approximately 10 years. During that time he helped facilitate the injuries from the Southern Airways plane crash in New Hope, GA. As recently as a year ago he met with residents affected by the plane crash and recalled the horrific events with emotion.
Through Dallas Family Practice Center, Dr. Sparti has been serving generations of families in Paulding County and surrounding areas for 50 years. He cared deeply for all of his patients regardless of their social status or ability to pay, and they were as loyal to him. Dallas Family Practice Center employed long time employees who became an extension of his family and remained dedicated to him to his very last day in practice.
For 40 years, he has enjoyed a longtime professional relationship with local pharmacists. His interests outside the office included spending time with friends at Tri City Pawn shop, coin collecting, and involvement with other numismatics.
John's father, Dr. Frank Sparti, helped open the first 10 bed hospital in Dallas, Georgia and worked with him for a short time as did his brother, Dr. Michael Sparti, who have both preceded him in death. Dr. Sparti has 4 remaining siblings, whom he was close with, Frank J. Sparti, PA , is a successful artist in Cartersville, GA., Francis Sparti, Retired Nurse Practioner, Cartersville, Georgia, Dr. Paula Sparti, Retired Miami, FL and Dr. Patricia Sparti, Maestra at Gardner Webb University, North Carolina.
Dr. Sparti leaves behind 3 loving children from previous marriage to Mai Batson Sparti. Frank T. Sparti, (Jennifer), Paolo Sparti and Derrick Sparti. Along with his grandchildren Scarlett, John, and Violet Sparti. He also leaves behind loving family members, Betty, Victoria, and many others. Preceded in death in addition to his father and brother, is step-mother, Lillian Bowman Sparti and beloved step-sons, Dillon and Devin Swanson.
Dr. Sparti spent the last 21 years with the love of his life, Rona Swanson, at their lake home in Hiram, Georgia. They worked closely together to expand his practice and involvement in the community. He was a wonderful step-father to her 3 children. They successfully merged the 2 families into one and spent many years building new memories. He leaves behind, step-daughter, Shelby Swanson-Windsor (Russell), whom he loved and raised as his own. Shelby was devoted to John in every way possible and will miss him terribly as we all will.
Arrangements for Dr. John Sparti are made through Clark Funeral Home, Hiram, GA. Visitation is Friday, February 23, 2024 from 4:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. and also on Saturday, February 24, 2024 from 2:00 P.M. until 3:00 P.M. with services immediately following in the Chapel at 3:00 P.M. A graveside service will follow at Peaceful Meadows Cemetery in Dallas, GA on Saturday, February 23, 2024 at 4:30 PM.
