John "Buddy" Rumph

January 2, 1934 — September 9, 2019

John “Buddy” Rumph, age 85, of Douglasville, GA, passed away at his home on Monday, September 9, 2019. He was born on January 2, 1934 in Marshallville, GA. “Buddy” was a retired SGT. First Class in the United States Army, where he served his country bravely for 22 years. He later retired as a truck driver for Eckerd’s Pharmacy where he worked for 20 years. Mr. Rumph was a faithful member of New Georgia Baptist Church and was known as the “candy man” there. He loved the Lord with all his heart, his family and his great country. He is preceded death by his parents; Webster Jerome Rumph and Laura Bell Rumph and his brother, Harold Rumph.

Survivors include his beloved wife of 63 years, Bobbie Lee Rumph of Douglasville, GA, son, Gary and Sandy Rumph of Douglasville, GA, daughter, Valinda and Randy Autrey of Lovejoy, GA, sisters; Francis Grimsley of Lawrenceville, GA, Jean Adams of Brunswick, GA, Shirley Buckley- Kane of Flowery Branch, GA, grandchildren; Jennifer and John Borsh, Jason and Kara Rumph, Jamie and Truman Oetting, Brian and Aimie Autrey, Heather and Micah Gravley, Matthew and Ashley Autrey, Kristen and Travis Monroe, Corey and Shannon Autrey, 23 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services for Mr. Rumph will be held on Thursday, September 12, 2019 at 3:00 PM at New Georgia Baptist Church in the New Sanctuary with Dr. Keith Stell and Dr. Jim Burdette officiating. Mr.Rumph will lie in state at the church from 2:00 PM until the service begins at 3:00 PM.  Interment will follow the service at Melrose Hills Memorial Park Cemetery with the following gentlemen serving as pallbearers; Jason Rumph, Truman Oetting, Micah Gravely, Travis Monroe, John Borsh, and David Yarbrough. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be New Georgia Baptist Church Men’s Sr.  Sunday school class. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, September 11, 2019 from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.

The family will graciously accept flowers or donations can be made to New Georgia Baptist Church building fund in Mr. Rumph’s honor.
