Joseph Terrell Butler, Jr., age 83, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. Joe was born on February 3, 1938 in Savannah to his late parents, Joseph and Glenne Butler. Joe and his wife Marion Powell married on June 17, 1962. They raised two daughters, Elizabeth and Mary, and a son, Joseph.
Joe was known for his quick wit, brazen one liners, and infectious laugh. He was a master “Mr. Fix-It” who always reaffirmed his grandkids’ belief that “if it’s broken, Poppy can fix it.” He had a passion for woodworking and fishing, and a deep appreciation for nature and animals. Joe will be missed by family and friends - many of whom were undoubtedly the recipient of one of his heartfelt hugs, or sincere words of appreciation or concern accompanied by an endearing “sugar.”
Joe is preceded in death by his brother, Lee Butler; his sisters, Mary Olive Ratchford and Emagene Buttimer; and his daughter, Mary Butler. He is survived by his loving wife Marion; his children, Elizabeth (Mike) Griffitt and Joseph (Cynthia) Butler; his sister, Yvonne Falagan; his five grandchildren, Brittany (Cody) Pless, Becky (Paul) Mansfield, Grant Butler, Garrett Butler, and Gray Butler; and his 3 great-grandchildren, Morgan Pless, Elliot Pless, and Sydney Mansfield; along with several nieces and nephews.
Due to the pandemic, the service will be a small private graveside service on Saturday March 6th 5:00 PM at Paulding Memorial Gardens in Hiram Ga.
The family asks in lieu of flowers please donate to the American Heart Association in Joe’s name.
