Joseph Wesley Scoggins, age 88, of Dallas, passed away on Wednesday, April 15, 2009. A native of Paulding County, he was born,
April 18, 1920, and was preceded in death by his father, Robert. B. Scoggins, Sr., mother, Molly Hudson Scoggins, and daughter, Janice Scoggins Harris. Mr. Scoggins was a decorated Veteran of the U. S. Army, serving in World War II. He achieved the rank of Sergeant and became commander of the 601st tank destroyer battalion. Sgt. Scoggins received eleven medals earned during his years of service. He then worked for Simmons Mattress Company for 42 years.
Survivors include his wife of almost 64 years, Geneva Parson Scoggins; sister, Mildred Heard of Mableton; son-in-law, Tommy Harris of Dallas; granddaughter, Lynn Jetton of Dallas; great-granddaughter, Ashley Jetton of Dallas; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at 11:00 am, from Clark Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Jeff Byrd and Reverend C. T. Warren officiating. Interment will follow in Paulding
Memorial Gardens. Richard Harris, Brad Warren, Joey Warren, Barry Warren, Jason Palmer and Mike Pressley will serve as pallbearers, with Caleb Pressley and Roman Warren serving as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, April 16, 2009, from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
