JW Rakestraw, age 94, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2020 at Wellstar Paulding Hospital. He was born on September 15, 1925 in Dallas, GA, to his late parents; George and Odell Rakestraw. JW worked for Lockheed Martin rebuilding machinery for many years and was a United States Army veteran and served during WWII. He was a faithful member of First Baptist Church of Dallas, where he served as a Deacon. JW was a loving husband, father, brother and grandfather who will be dearly missed by his loving family and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his former wife, Carolyn Rakestraw, sister, Eilene Johnson, 4 brothers; Weyman Rakestraw, Wylie Rakestraw, Dale Rakestraw, and Winford Rakestraw.
Survivors include his loving wife, Mona Rakestraw of Dallas, GA, daughter, Joy Hambrick and her husband, Chris of New Hope, GA, brother, Ronnie Rakestraw and his wife, Shirley of Dallas, GA, sister, June Freeman and her husband, Clive of Dallas, GA, grandchildren; Katie Hambrick of New Hope, GA, Allison Hambrick of New Hope, GA, and several nieces and nephews.
In accordance to the families wishes a private service for Mr. Rakestraw has been planned with Rev. Don Rackley officiating. The family would like to extend their love and appreciation to everyone who will not be able to attend the service in person due to Covid-19 restrictions.
