Larry Earl Collier, 78, of Villa Rica, GA passed away on Saturday, September 3. He was born on September 2, 1944, in Sylvester, Georgia, to Lois and Benjamin Collier. He was a graduate of Young Harris College, Georgia State College, the Georgia Banking School and Stonier Graduate School of Banking. During this time, he met the love of his life Angela Crocker. The two were married on October 31, 1965. Larry worked for Suntrust bank for over 34 years and retired as a group Vice President. In his time there, he was responsible for 18 different bank branches and over 155 employees in Cobb and Cherokee counties. Larry was the president of the Rotary club, Chairman of the Paulding Hospital Authority, and the Cobb County Chamber of Commerce. He succeeded in most all things, but his family was especially proud of the Cobb Executive Women Glass Ceiling Award he was presented in 2001. A news article quoted, "Over the years he directly supported and mentored the women under his supervision, never once segregating them because of their gender. He has directly promoted many of them and has supported the women officers who are involved in various volunteer organizations in the community." Upon retirement from Suntrust, he made the decision to start another bank in Rockmart, Georgia, that showed success for many years. When Larry finally decided to fully retire, he spent time traveling with his wife and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Lois & BT Collier, siblings Tommy Collier and Patricia Shiver, and daughter-in-law Joanna Leigh Collier.
Larry has two children, Steve Collier (Allison and Wyatt) & Tracy Butler (Todd), three grandchildren Josh Collier (Tori), Chase Collier (Courtney) & Kelci Wright (TJ), and three great-grandsons McClain and Merritt Collier, Miller Wright, and many wonderful nurses, caregivers, and administrators at The Pearl. He will be greatly missed by all those who had the blessing of knowing him in any capacity.
