Marion Jones Leachmon

Marion Leachmon , 88 passed away on Monday, November 26, 2018. Funeral Services will be held at Clark Funeral Home, Hiram, Ga. at three pm with Dr. Curtis Turner officiating  and long time friend Paul Schuh speaking briefly at the gravesite at Dallas Memory Garden cemetery. The family will greet friends at Clark Funeral Home one hour prior to service from 2-3PM.

In Lieu of flowers, Donations may be made to HOSPICE Tranquility in Austell Georgia.

Ms. Leachmon was predeceased by her parents, Miles and Bernice Jones of Dallas Georgia. Marion has two surviving brothers, Mr. Sam Jones of Dallas and Mr. Charles Jones of Austell Georgia. Ms. Leachmon  was a longstanding member of First Baptist Church and Legacy Baptist Church in Dallas Georgia. Throughout the lives of her young children, she stressed the importance and habit of keeping her daughters active in church to which they both are so appreciative. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.

After graduating from Dallas High School in 1948, she was employed by Life of Georgia Insurance Company in Atlanta, all the while enjoying the adventure of living in the city during her young life with friends. Marian enjoyed Florida's beaches any weekend, attended Billy Graham Crusade revivals, walked Peachtree to hear Dr. Charles Allen of Peachtree RD Methodist Church speak who would eventually perform her marriage ceremony. They walked to movie theaters, coffee shops, shopped downtown and caught the Friday afternoon bus on Ponce De Leon sometimes to come back to Dallas, home for the weekend to help out when needed. Like so many other young people during that time of the1950's period, she enjoyed hearing the "Big Bands" playing in the FOX Theater's Egyptian Room.

While living in Atlanta during her single days of the1950's, her sewing skills, learned out of necessity growing up in the Depression, came to good use keeping her in step with fashion and style in the office environment of her employer and social life. Later in life those experiences came into great use while raising two young daughters and passing on the example of classic traditional style. Marian and her daughters were always dressed fashionably in her creations, she also created the oldest daughter’s wedding dress.
Being such a skilled seamstress she was able to create a warm inviting home with the latest fabrics and textiles.

During1952, Marion traveled by train across the country out west and into Canada for the experience of a lifetime. Greatly influenced by the older adults who were her travel companions during this two week trip, she noted in her travel journal their manners, broad scope of life experiences and travel adventures. Over the weeks ahead of the trip, in her journal, Marian listed details of sewing the clothes she’d wear on her long trip.

Marian’s father Miles Jones of Rabun County Georgia, attended family reunions of his cousins in north Georgia or west of Atlanta in the Bremen community every July of which Marian regularly attended, then began bringing her own family. These were precious memories for her of growing up with cousins into adults with their own children arriving thereafter.
Ms. Leachmon is survived by two daughters, Robin and Randy Thackston of Hiram GA and Karen and Doug Wilson of Macon GA. There are three grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
