Nellie Shuler Thackston passed away on Wednesday, March 15, 2023. She was born on July 18, 1932 in Atlanta,GA. She worked at and owned her own beauty shop for over 25 years, then worked and co-owned a craft shop with her daughter for 5 years. Nellie finished off her working career at Presbyterian Village as a Housekeeping supervisor for 10 years. Nellie enjoyed Country and Gospel Music. She was full of life and was always on the go. Nellie was a prankster but always gave herself to support others. Nellie loved to help others; whether it be making corndogs for many fundraisers, making biscuits for her neighbors or serving them Varsity Chilidogs to their doors, she loved taking care of others
In addition to her parents, Nellie is preceded in death by her husband, Wilbert R. Thackston; all nine of her siblings; a daughter, Marlene McGuiness; and a granddaughter, Shannon Vess. She is survived by a son, Mark (Lorinda) Thackston; a daughter, Angela (Kenneth) Byers; a sister, Virginia Shuler; nine grandchildren, Brandie (Dan), Breanna, Monica, Harley, Scott (Deanna), Sean (Christy) and Amanda (Lee); 14 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Monday, March 20, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:30 PM. Funeral Service for Nellie will be held at Clark Funeral Home on Monday, March 20, 2023 at 2:30 PM with Rev. Rickey Bice officiating. Interment will follow at Paulding Memorial Gardens with Nellie's grandsons and great-grandsons serving as pallbearers. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Nellie's honor St. Jude's Children Research Hospital. Clark Funeral Home is honored to care for the Thackston Family during this difficult time.
