Pauline Hunter Williams, age 99, of Hiram, GA, passed away on Tuesday, April 8, 2014, in the home of her daughter and son-in-law, after failing to recover from a fall she suffered on December 31. It was a huge disappointment to her to have to spend that evening at the hospital, rather than the New Year’s Eve party she had looked forward to attending.
Born in Douglasville, GA, September 19, 1914, to J. Isom and Susie V. Hunter, Pauline, known to many as “Aunt Polly”, was a wonderful mother, an active and valued member of Bethel United Methodist Church, a participant in the Hiram Chapter of Eastern Star, and an inspiration to all who knew her. She truly embodied the concept of “unconditional love”.
Pauline lived her entire life in Douglas and Paulding counties. She was a stay-at-home Mom until her children were teenagers. Having been an excellent seamstress, keeping her entire family well dressed, she then took formal training and became a tailor for Muse’s men’s store at Greenbriar Mall, and then at O’Neal’s in Douglasville until her retirement.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, David and Derinda Carpenter of Naples, FL; her grandchildren, Kelly and Justin Fisher of Moody, AL, and Amy Knight of Hiram, GA; and her beloved great-grandchildren, Daniel, Jenny, and Emily Knight, and William and Anna Morgan Fisher.
Pauline was preceded in death by her husband, Jim Williams, and by her son, Danny Williams, as well as a brother, Rader Hunter, and two sisters, Nell Hunter Boswell and Edna Driskell.
The funeral service will be held at Bethel United Methodist Church on Friday, April 11, 2014, at 1:00 PM, with Dr. Gil Watson, Reverend Chris Branscomb and Amy Knight officiating. (The body will lie-in-state at the church from 12:00 PM until the service time). Interment will be held in the Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, with Larry Hunter, Mike Garner, Dave Williams, Matt Schuster, Jim Garmon and Kyle Phillips serving as pallbearers . The calling hours at Clark Funeral Home will be on Thursday, April 10, 2014, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to Bethel United Methodist Church.
Pauline commented more than once during the last 2 years of her life that she thought God had forgotten about her. But all of us who love her know that God was just leaving her here to do His work. She will be sorely missed.
