Scout Master Clay Haney, affectionately known as Poppy by his family, died Saturday, November 9, 2024. He was born on March 19, 1964, in Atlanta, Georgia, the son of Patricia Ann Cheeves Haney and the late Kenneth Lamar Haney.
Clay led a remarkable life as an IT tech at Carestream Dental and dedicated over 20 years as a Scout Master with the Boy Scouts. He spent countless days camping, shooting guns, playing video games, whittling, and he had a penchant for oldies Rock 'N Roll music. Known for his generosity and helpful nature, Clay never met a stranger and he never hesitated to lend a helping hand. Clay's legacy will be carried on by others by his choice to Donate Life as an organ donor.
In addition to his father, Clay was also preceded in death by his brother, Kenneth Wayne Haney.
Clay is survived by his loving wife of 36 ½ years, Rebecca Lynn McCard Haney; his children: Alora Danon Haney, Brittaney Nichole Haney, Chelsea Elaine (Matt) Cowan, and Nicklaus O'Rion Clay (Tiffany) Haney; darling granddaughter, Emerlyn Nora Cowan; his mother, Patricia Ann Cheeves Haney; brother: John Russell (Sherry King) Haney; several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles.
In honor of Clay's life, a visitation will be held at Clark Funeral Home in Hiram, Georgia on Monday, November 18, 2024 from 11:00 am until the service time.
The Funeral Service will be held in Sam Clark Chapel on Monday, November 18, 2024, beginning at 2:00 pm, with Jim Kudwa delivering the eulogy along with participants from the family, attendees and the Boy Scouts Troop 321.
Services will culminate in his burial in Mozley Memorial Gardens in Lithia Springs, Georgia with the Boy Scouts Troop 321 serving as Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully requests contributions be made payable to the Boy Scouts Troop 321, 195 Polk Avenue, Dallas, Georgia 30132.
