Randall "Randy" Thompson passed away on February 13, 2023. He was born on July 1, 1949, to the late Charles William and Annie Ruth Thompson. He attended the Georgia Institute of Technology and graduated with a bachelor’s in civil engineering. Randy was a retired Commander for the US Navy and proudly served as a SeaBee during his military career. Randy later used his passion for building to help carve the skylines of Atlanta, Charlotte, and other cities, and most recently used his talents to build awe-inspiring tree houses, doll houses and pillow forts. Randy retired last year from Batson-Cook Construction Company after over 40 years of service. He was a mentor to so many in the industry and was generous with his time spent on his work. Most importantly, Randy was a family man. He put family first above all else and truly loved each of them. He especially adored his grandchildren and was lovingly known as "Pops". Pops spent countless hours pushing playground swings and proudly cheering on his grandkids from the sidelines. Randy loved his family, was devoted to his work, and was a man of great character and faith. He was an incredible son, brother, uncle, husband, father, grandfather, and friend who will be deeply missed.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Randall Charles Thompson Jr. Randy is survived by his loving wife of 19 years, Denise Thompson; his children, Kevin (Meredith) Thompson, Cory (Leslie) Thompson, Timothy (Christy) Carroll, Brandy (John) Augustine; siblings, Bonnie Hancock, Bill (Terri) Thompson, Rick Thompson, Becky (Eddie) Colwell, Rhonda (Sam) Braswell,; nine grandchildren, Emma Thompson, Owen Thompson, Blake Thompson, William Carroll, Abigail Carroll, Heidi Carroll, Angela Grace Carroll, Charlotte Augustine, Tessa Augustine; and several nieces and nephews.
