Reverend Sam Shipp

Sam passed peacefully from this life to Glory the morning of November 29th after a gradual decline in health. He was surrounded and supported by his loving family and caregivers during the last days of his life. Sam was born May 12, 1930 to Glenn and Effie Shipp and raised in Hiram, GA to a railroad family. As a young man he entered into the railroad industry only to discover his true calling was at the hands of God as a pastor. Sam began his career ordained as preacher at Cochran Ridge Baptist Church on December 28, 1958. He was Pastor of 12 full time churches: Macedonia Baptist, Northside Baptist, Cochran Ridge Baptist, Post Oak Baptist, Mt. Zion Baptist, Roswell 2nd Baptist, Concord Baptist, Corner Baptist, Faith Baptist, Zion View Baptist, Bethel Baptist, High Shoals Baptist, and after retirement filled in as Pastor at Fullerville Baptist, New Life Baptist, Ridge Road Baptist and Revival Baptist. He always said a Preacher never retires.

Sam is survived by two children: Judy Cranford and Wanda Marietta; son-in-law’s Tom Cranford and Tom Marietta; five grandchildren: Richard Hargett, Joshua and Dori Marietta, Kristin Marietta and Noah Marietta and one great grandchild (his name sake) Samuel Marietta. Sam is also survived by his brother Romaine Shipp and sisters Geneva Eberhart, Margie Ricks, and Brenda Shipp. He was preceded in death by his wife Alta, his brother Gene and sisters Laurene and Rose.

Visitation for family in friends will be held on Wednesday, December 3rd from 5pm-8pm at Clark Funeral Home, 4373 Atlanta Highway, Hiram, GA 30141.

The funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 4th at 11:00am at Cochran Ridge Baptist Church, 2083 Cochran Ridge Road, Hiram, GA 30141
