Mr. Ronald Perry Burgess, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025, at the age of 78. He was born on March 10, 1946, to the late Bluford and Dorothy Burgess. Ron lived a life filled with love, faith, and a passion for serving others.
Ron retired from General Motors after dedicating over 30 years of service.
Pastor Ron devoted 20 wonderful years to being the pastor of Christ's Freedom Church, where he inspired countless lives with his messages and steadfast dedication. Previously, he served as a youth pastor at Open Bible Tabernacle and traveled with “God’s Messengers” to minister to other churches through worship and sermons. All who knew him will deeply miss his genuine spirit and ministry to others.
When he wasn't preaching or guiding the youth, he could often be found hunting, fishing, or enjoying the great outdoors. He loved sports and cheered on his hometown favorites, the Atlanta Braves and Atlanta Falcons. In his younger years, he enjoyed the thrill of "slinging dirt" by racing his number 88 racecar on dirt tracks.
Ron's vibrant personality and immeasurable kindness left an everlasting mark on everyone he met. He had a unique ability to make anyone feel like he had known them forever. No one was ever a stranger — just a new friend waiting to be made. His laughter was contagious, his heart open to all, and his generosity unmatched. Whether sharing stories, helping, or brightening a room with his presence, Ron had a gift for making people feel valued and loved. In every interaction, he demonstrated kindness and a genuine interest in others. Ron's legacy lives on in the countless lives he touched, and his memory will continue to bring joy and comfort, as well as a reminder of the power of connection, kindness, and selfless service to others.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Bluford Burgess; his son Randall Burgess; and his brothers Jerry Burgess, Garry Burgess, and Jeff Burgess.
Ron was devoted to his family and made family a priority. He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Diana Burgess, and his children: Lisa (Bernie) Connelly, Kimberly (Scott) Posey, Ronnie (Shannon) Burgess Jr., and Crystal Jarrard; brother, Phillip (Vickie) Burgess; sisters, Sandra (Lee) Marks and Charlotte McBurnett. His legacy also lives on through his grandchildren—Jonathan Allen, Andrew (Katlyn) Day, Tobee (Sarah) Jefferson, Trey Jefferson, Amber Burgess, Christopher Burgess, Lindsey (Sean) Nelson, Lisa (Kyle) Topham, Lara (Matt) Masters, Brian (Sheila) Connelly, Elizabeth Posey, Alexis Posey, and Luke McClure—as well as seven cherished great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are invited to join us in celebrating Pastor Burgess’s incredible life. We encourage all to share stories, laughter, and memories of a man who touched many lives.
