Roy Overton, age 75, of Rockmart, GA (Paulding County) passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2014. He was born on April 18, 1939, in Winfield, AL, to the late Joseph and Arendie Overton, and was preceded in death by his brother, Ted Alvin Overton and sister, Dorothy Williams. Mr. Overton moved from Mobile, AL in 1965 to Smyrna. He owned a printing shop in Mableton, GA and worked in the printing shop at Lockheed for 20 years and retired in 2001. He a United States Navy Reserve for 8 years, a member of the Mableton Moose Lodge and Smyrna Masonic Lodge, and was a Shriner. He was an avid Alabama Crimson Tide Fan, loved golf, fishing and wood working.
Survivors include his wife of 27 years, Betty S. Overton of Rockmart, GA; daughters, Tamara Kay &Paul Chernutan of Marietta, GA, and Leigh Ann & Bob Veronneau of Rockport, TX; stepchildren, Jon & Jo Hagler of Rockmart, GA, Cindy & Ronald Diggs of Dallas, GA, and Matthew & Amanda Hagler of Temple, GA: brother J.W. Overton of Natchez, MS; sister, Betty Walker of Moody, AL; twelve grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Sunday, December 21, 2014, at 3:00 PM at Beulah Land Baptist Church Cemetery, with Pastor Rodney Colston, SR. officiating. Jon Hagler, Matt Hagler, Paul Chernutan, David Lemons, Bob Veronneau, and Troy Millhollan will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, December 21, 2014, from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM.
