Thomas Abston

Thomas "Tommy" T. Abston of Villa Rica, Georgia passed away April 20, 2025 at the age of 83. Tommy was born July 10, 1941 in Greene County, AL to Norman and Mary Alice Abston.

Tommy earned his master's and bachelor's degrees from Livingston State College (now University of West Alabama) where he was a running back on the football team. He was selected to the All-Conference Team and was recognized as highest scorer in the Conference. He taught and coached with the Cobb County School District in Marietta, GA for 35 years.

Tommy enjoyed gardening and sharing with friends and family. He was an avid runner and participated in 33 consecutive Peachtree Road Races. His greatest joy was his family. He traveled over Georgia and Alabama to see his grandchildren participate in their sports and activities.

Tommy was a current member of New Georgia Baptist Church, and a former member of First Baptist Church, Mableton, GA where he was a deacon and Sunday School teacher. 

He was preceding in death by his parents, his brother, Charles Abston, and sister, Judy Halbert.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Janith Cameron Abston; his two daughters: Laura (Peter) Ludwig of Chelsea, AL and Rachel (Jody) Yarbrough of Acworth, GA; his grandchildren: Thomas Ludwig, Owen Yarbrough, Jonathan Ludwig and Evelyn Yarbrough. He is also survived by his sister, Dot Barrentine of Aliceville, AL, brothers, J.T. (Frances) Abston of Gautier, MS, and Richard (Carol) Abston of Vernon, AL and sister-in-law, Alice Faye Abston of Aliceville, AL.

The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral home in Hiram, Georgia on Tuesday, April 22, 2025 from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm.

Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, April 23, 2025 at 1:00 pm Central Time in York Municipal Cemetery, York, Alabama. with Reverend Shawn McDaniel officiating.
