Tom Austin

Tom Austin, a cherished father, grandfather, and community figure, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 93. Born on February 22, 1931, in Dallas, Georgia, Tom lived a life full of hard work, love, and devotion to his family and community.

As a dedicated business owner in the construction industry, he founded Austin Truss, a company that became a staple in the local area. Tom was proud of his work, and his commitment to quality and service earned him the respect of both customers and peers. Beyond his professional achievements, Tom derived great joy from caring for his cows, cherishing the connection to the land and the simple pleasures of rural life.

Tom is survived by his beloved sons, Mark Austin and Michael Austin (Wanda), and his daughter, Melanie Sewell (Rick). He will be deeply missed by his granddaughters, Tara (Sean) Taber, Brooke (Blake)Turner, Reagan Sewell, and Riley Sewell, as well as his great-grandsons, Austin Moore and Mason Turner, and great-granddaughter, Ashton Taber. His family was his pride and joy, and he instilled in them the values of hard work, integrity, and compassion.

In honor of Tom's life, a graveside service will be held at Narroway Baptist Church Cemetery on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., with Rev Jimmy Tibbitts. Those serving as pallbearers are Doug Ayers, Larry Austin, Randy Austin, Blake Turner, Sean Taber, and Austin Moore. Friends and family will gather for visitation at Clark Funeral Home on Tuesday, February 4, 2025, starting at 5:00 p.m. Tom's memory will continue to live on through the countless lives he touched and the legacy he leaves behind.

As we reflect on a life well lived, we will remember Tom Austin for his accomplishments, warm spirit, and unwavering love for those around him. May he rest in eternal peace.

Tom was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Julia Austin, in 2021.
