William T. “Sam” Cochran, age 65, of Dallas, GA, passed away Sunday, October 7, 2012. He was born, July 13, 1947, in Atlanta, GA, son of the late,
Hoke Terrell Cochran & the late, Ollie Brown Cochran. Mr. Cochran was retired from the trucking business after 35 years and was the former owner of Southern Sand & Gravel. He raced for 32 years at tracks across the southeast including Peach Bowl, Lakewood, Dixie Speedway, Rome Speedway, West Atlanta in Douglasville and Senoia Speedway. Mr. Cochran loved his church and spending time with his grandchildren. He was a member of Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church in Temple.
Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Charlene Cox Cochran; children, Lynn & Gary Winger of Fayetteville, GA, Stephen Pete Cochran of Dallas, GA and Rhonda & Doug Ashley of Dallas, GA; and grandchildren, Kayla Cochran, Petey Cochran, Kyle Cochran, Lora Cochran, Ashton Winger, Morgan McConnell and Will McConnell.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at 11:00 AM, from Lighthouse Missionary Baptist Church, with Brother Jason Hudgens, Brother Charles Williams and Brother Michael Williams officiating. Interment will follow in Melrose Hills Memorial Park, with Randall Hudgens, Barry Goodwin, Petey Cochran, Kyle Cochran, Larry Horton and Doug Turner serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Ashton Winger and Will McConnell. The family will receive friends at Clark Funeral Home on Monday, October 8, 2012, from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
