Wilma Ione Bell Bivens, age 87, of Dallas, GA, passed away on Tuesday, July 14, 2009. She was a life time resident of Paulding County, born November 28, 1921. Mrs. Bivens was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest Coleman Bell & Donnie Viola Holland Bell; husband, Lawrence Vester Bivens; brothers, Kenneth E. Bell, Wyatt C. Bell and James (Jimmy) C. Bell; and sisters, Jeanette Royals and Patsy Atkinson. Mrs. Bivens was a member of Dallas First United Methodist Church. She taught school in the 1940’s at the New Hope Elementary School and organized the first PTA for the school. She organized and was an active member of the Rural Beauty Garden Club for many years, and was a charter member of both the American Legion Auxiliary Post 111, and the Edward Hagan Chapter of the D. A. R.
Mrs. Bivens retired from Lockheed after 20 years of service. She served on the Board of Trustees for the perpetual care of the New Hope Cemetery, was a past officer of the Dallas Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a past board member of the American Heart Association.
Survivors include her daughters & sons-in-law, Joan & Don Champion of Acworth, Rosemary & Keith Butler of Dallas, and Cherry & Van Westbrook of Rockmart; grandchildren, Brad Butler, Gretchen Curl, Jason Waddell, Patrick Butler, Wendy Beilfuss, and Alie Voyles; great-grandchildren, Wesley Waddell, Jake Beilfuss, Chip Curl, Julia Beilfuss, Holland Butler, and Natalie Voyles; aunt, Irma Holland Cheatham; nineteen nieces; and seven nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 16, 2009, at 11:00 AM, from the Dallas First United Methodist Church, with Reverend Steve Schofield and Reverend J. T. Hollingshed officiating. Interment will follow in Dallas Memory Gardens. Brad Butler, Jason Waddell, Patrick Butler, John Johnson, Ken J. Bell, John Holland Johnson, Greg Weaver and Jason Voyles will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM.
